About My Classroom

First and foremost, I love teaching music to all different ages and I am excited to be your child‘s music teacher!  This will be my 3rd year of teaching music education. I have always had such a strong passion for music and teaching.  I believe that there is so much more that happens in the process of making music than most people realize. I encourage active music making in my room and making music come alive! Music is more than black and white dots on a page it is about creating an experience for a group of people where they can all come together from many different backgrounds and play in one accord. My students should be as creative as they want and paint a story with sound.

Our classroom learning is hands on through various activities such as singing, dancing, moving, playing instruments and learning about the culture and history of music around the world. I love to create the space according to what we are learning. For example when we learning about the renaissance time period I provided the students with costumes from the renaissance as we listened to music from that time period and learned a social dance that the ladies and gentleman would have danced.

I also like to create an environment where my students feel comfortable, where the clear and consistent expectations are set on the first day. I want my students to learn how to become intellectual observers, expressive and passionate musicians, but this can not be possible until a level or respect for each other is established in the room. I love to watch my students try new things and feel comfortable about doing so even if they mess up or find out they don't like doing it. I always tell the students a piece of music that I perform for me might be different then if you performed it for me even if it is the same piece. I believe that every piece of music is different and it should be because it is meant to be your interpretation of the piece and what you bring e music to the in that moment.   I am looking forward to making music with your students. I look forward to singing, performing, composing, improvising and analyzing music with them. I am also looking forward to a great year with two band ensembles, two choirs and a rock ensemble!

Listen below to one of our very own 8th graders sing in our recording studio with our Rock Ensemble!
