Ms. Lynette Patterson - 1st Grade
My Classroom
First and foremost, I love teaching first grade and I am excited to be your child‘s teacher! This will be my 9th year of teaching elementary school. Every year brings something new, and I learn right along with the students.
Our classroom learning is hands on through various centers and stations. I encourage my first graders to read, read, and read! We will be reading about how things work, how things move and also read - just for fun! It will be a really fun and exciting year in science as we will learn about the sun, energy and weather as well as other topics. In math, we will be getting really good at math facts, counting money, understanding place value, telling time and much more! Many of our lessons will incorporate music, dance and art!
It is important to me that my students feel safe and comfortable, where expectations and rules are consistent and clear. I believe that all students can try and learn to take risks, that not doing things correctly is o.k. We learn from our mistakes and move on. We all learn differently and I teach many different methods to reach all children. I let children know that I want them to do their PERSONAL BEST! Celebrating success big or small along with the rest of the class is the best part of our day!
Outside of school, I love to learn. I try to fill my free time with reading. I also love biking and spending time outdoors as much as I can. I have a wonderful husband, Jim, two wonderful children and four young grandchildren. We all love to travel and enjoy the outdoors together. Also, Jim helps me out a lot in our first grade classroom...he hangs up all of the things that I can't reach!
I look forward to meeting all my new students soon! We will have a wonderful year exploring new things, making new friends and seeing familiar faces from kindergarten.
